Belgium born photographer Jacques Sonck has an exceptional feeling for special encounters. Walking the public space in Belgium, his eye spots extraordinary individuals, across all ages, genders, ethnicities, styles, appearances, social positions... and all walking on the border of so-called 'normality'. After a brief introduction, he quickly takes a few shots, mainly in a neutral setting and after ample minutes their ways part again. Notwithstanding the ephemeral encounter, Sonck's subjects apparently surrender to his lens without hesitation and or fear, and Sock's images always show respect, kindness and genuine interest. Although the clothing styles may suggest an era, the pictures are timeless and show people proud of being there, leaving all interpretation to the imagination of the viewer.
