    Description:

CASIMIR presents 4 Texts with 4 writers. Each writer approaches the oeuvre of CASIMIR from a different angle, based on their specialty. Francis Smets frames the works as furniture art, Marc Holthof's text is based on multiple interviews with Casimir, Virginia Tassinari writes about Casimir's layered work from a cultural-philosophical perspective and Fredie Floré reflects in a cultural-historical way on his furniture making. The book shows a selection of more than 70 works. From accessories to furniture, from the nineties till today, from small series to limiteds.

“This is Casimir’s ‘truth’. The multifaceted ‘truth’ that he wants to formulate in and with this book. A book that wants to be an example of deconstruction in terms of its form, graphically and technically, and that wants to be open to self-fulfilment, for example by separating text and images. And like a Lego block, it is a book that aims to rekindle and stimulate the reader’s fantasy, just like Casimir’s furniture.” Marc Holthof

Casimir was born in Koersel (Belgium) in 1966 and studied Industrial Design at SHIVKV Genk (Belgium). It was never a conscious choice of his to focus on design. Casimir was just looking for a versatile direction that would include theory and technique as well as creativity. While training as an Industrial Designer, he discovered that designing industrial products was not for him, as an industrial product is an accumulation of compromises and rarely the expression of a personal emotion or the personal vision of the designer… During his studies, he did, however, design a number of items of furniture that expressed his own vision of design. He established himself as a furniture designer and went on to develop this vision into a personal style.
Casimir won several awards, such as the Culture Award from the Province of Limburg in 1994, the Henry van de Velde Award in 2000, from Design Vlaanderen, and The Flemish Culture Award, the most prestigious award in Belgium for Architecture and Design, for the collections ‘Casimir Meubelen’ and ‘Vlaemsch’, in 2004.
