Anne-Mie Van Kerckhoven presents her artist's book 33 VROUWENREEKSEN, brought together in two volumes. This comprehensive 754-page publication contains personal texts, unpublished archival material, reflections on her work, and 33 artistic outliers by the artist. Only 250 signed copies of the Dutch-language version are for sale.
"These two volumes form a book about a particular aspect of what I made, namely a series linking women and theory. I organised the texts that were once written about and around my women’s series and placed them in the context of the works they are about and with what I wrote about them."
Since the early 1980s, Anne-Mie Van Kerckhoven has been prolific in her output of drawings, paintings, collages, video, and digital works. A straightforward female tone prevails in all her works, in which the erotic meets machine fetishism. Interiors, if not domestic spaces, often serve as settings for her drawings and collages, from which dream-like futuristic enactments between human and machine-like forms unfold. In the early 1990s, computer graphics entered her work; she often appropriates images from soft-porn magazines, which she then manipulates using her computer.

The extensive oeuvre of Anne-Mie Van Kerckhoven, AMVK for short, is very diverse. At the same time, her work is immediately recognisable: colourful, layered, feminist and strongly socially critical. AMVK makes connections between technology, sex and image in our current society. She brings together diverse sources of inspiration, from research into artificial intelligence to alchemy to soft-pornographic images, into a new universe. Strong, self-confident women take centre stage as a combative alternative to the classic female nude from the art tradition. AMVK uses materials and tricks from commercial graphics: hard plexiglass, plastic and bright colours. Combined with schematic black-and-white contrasts, reminiscent of graphics, fascinating images are created.
