Singular Beauty is the first standalone book by New York-based Australian photographer Jai Odell, exploring the intimate, cinematic and deeply human dimensions of contemporary beauty. Known for his refined visual language and sensitivity to his subjects, Odell captures faces and identities that challenge conventional ideals. The book presents a collection of portraits that celebrate individuality (androgynous), imperfection and emotional authenticity. Drawing on his experience in film and art direction, Odell brings a cinematic approach to the still image, balancing understated minimalism with a strong narrative presence. Singular Beauty is both a visual study and a reflection on the changing concept of beauty in modern culture. The influence of David Sims continues to haunt his portraits.

More than a fashion photographer, Jai Odell is above all a portraitist. His images gives off a certain cinematographic quality. Whether they are deep in thought or gazing directly into the lens, the faces he observes make up a gallery of characters who seem to have stepped straight into neo-realist production, an Italian style of cinema that appeared just after the Second World War, favoring unique physicques and preferring people from the street to professional actors. That quest for authenticity resonates with the Australian photographer, who has been based in New York for more than a decade.
