The London Book of Rhythm and Line by Mexican artist Santiago Evans Canales is a visual journey through drawing, where every image unfolds as an individual narrative. Moving fluidly between observation and imagination, Evans Canales transforms rhythm and line into a personal language, allowing each drawing to stand as a story in its own right while contributing to a larger visual dialogue.
After moving to Brussels, Evans Canales continued his artistic development at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp, where he completed his Master's in Painting. He was awarded the opportunity to realise his first artist's book in collaboration with HOPPER&FUCHS.
The publication offers an intimate introduction to the artist's practice, revealing a body of work in which drawing becomes a tool for exploration, memory, and storytelling. Rich in movement and detail, The London Book of Rhythm and Line invites readers to experience each page as both an autonomous work and part of a continuous visual rhythm.
Santiago Evans Canales (b. 1996) is an artist from Mexico City who grew up in different parts of the Americas, attained his Master of Fine Arts at the Royal Academy of Antwerp, Belgium 2021 and has a Post Graduate Diploma from the Royal College of Art, London 2022. He lives and works between Mexico City and Brussels.

Drawing is the most direct way through which a thought or an idea can be visualized. It represents the first step towards creation either in the form of a scripture, a sketch, or a series. Sometimes intuintively as an incitement to something else, sometimes well thought out as an artistic medium in itself. Drawing can function as a thinking process, as a research method, and as visual output. For students of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp, drawing is a way of unlocking, discovering and questioning images and thoughts.
Often the drawings do not leave the studio. Former publishing house Stockmans Art Books, and their publisher Bruno Devos, wanted to make these otherwise hidden drawings visible through a biennial prize. The 2021 Prize Stockmans Art Books was won by Emma Johnson and Santiago Evans Canales.
