02 color by Vid Timmermans
Vid Timmermans’ 02 color, part of her ongoing 'heimat' project, takes you to three places that each feel like a piece of home.
‘heimat’ (2024 - ongoing) is a photographic project by Vid Timmermans that focuses on his home in Belgium, Switzerland and Croatia — three countries that hold deep personal meaning because of his background and family. Each place represents a different piece of what “home” means to him. At the same time, the project acknowledges that this sense of belonging is not always simple. The question of where one truly belongs forms the foundation of the work. The project resulted in two publications: 01 black & white and 02 color. Together, they present different visual approaches to the same central search.
In both publications, Vid explores the differences and similarities between the three countries, paying attention to the beauty of everyday life as well as the complexity of belonging. The physical environment and the emotional experience are portrayed side by side. The separation into black & white and color reflects how his photographic language adapts depending on location and atmosphere, while each place continues to feel like home in its own unique way.
In December 2024, Vid Timmermans won the DDK #32 Pitch with a presentation of his Heimat project at the Minardschouwburg in Ghent, Belgium. Following a conversation with publisher Bruno Devos, Vid decided to share his photography with a wider audience and to publish his first two zines with HOPPER&FUCHS. Born in 2007 in Zürich, he currently lives, works, and studies in Ghent. The presale will launch in September 2025 in Ghent, with free pickup available at the launch event. Free pickups will also be available at Zwartopwit in Ghent, Antwerp, and Mechelen.
